No need for a spotter

If you’ve ever heard someone talking about a power cage, power rack, squat rack or squat cage, they are all basically the same piece of equipment, used to help lifters perform heavy barbell lifts safely. The equipment is similar to the Smith machine but it doesn’t restrict the lifter’s movements as much.

What do squat racks, power cages look like?

Four posts stand on end at each corner of the rack. The two posts on each side are often attached together with metal bars all the way up, making the equipment look like a cage. Each side of the cage has some sort of a moveable bar catcher.

What is the purpose of a cage?

When lifting barbells there’s always the risk of dropping the weight and causing floor damage or injury, which is why many gym goers use a spotter. The cage works in place of a human spotter, catching the barbell if you find you can’t handle the weight mid-lift.

What exercises is a power cage used for?

Aside from the obvious - squats - power cages and squat racks help users perform safe curls, bench presses, upright rows, shrugs, calf raises and more.

Women who know the importance of compound moves and lifting heavier weights to keep their bodies trim and toned will find the power cage very beneficial. But if you don’t have much extra room in your home you’re probably better off using this equipment at the local gym.
